Lady Nancy Astor
“Real education should educate us out of self into something far finer; into a selflessness which links us with all humanity.”
Founded in 1994, the Lady Nancy Astor Chapter is a dynamic and friendly group within the Daughters of the British Empire in Kansas. Named in honor of Lady Nancy Astor, the first woman to take a seat in the British Parliament, our chapter reflects her pioneering spirit, strength, and commitment to public service.

Born in the United States and later becoming a prominent figure in British politics, Lady Astor broke new ground in 1919 when she entered the House of Commons. She was known for her sharp wit, independent mind, and dedication to social reform—qualities that continue to inspire our members today.

Our chapter is made up of around 20 members from all walks of life, including retirees, homemakers, educators, legal professionals, and women working across a range of fields. We value the diversity of experience each member brings, and we enjoy meaningful connections through shared heritage, purpose, and friendship.

We meet on the third Sunday of every month, gathering for business, laughter, and lively conversation. Throughout the year, we enjoy strong participation in DBE social events, where we connect with other chapters and celebrate our collective mission.

We firmly believe that fundraising for Cantata/The British Home and our local charities should be both impactful and enjoyable. We host a spring tea with the Somerset House chapter each year, where guests can come together and enjoy a delicious afternoon tea and camaraderie.

Whether you're new to the area or simply seeking a welcoming community with a meaningful cause, we invite you to join us for tea and a social hour. We would love to meet you and share what makes the Lady Nancy Astor Chapter such a special part of the DBE.
