BritGram Tea with Our Local
PBS Station KCPT

On September 22, DBE in Kansas was delighted to partner with our local PBS station, KCPT, for its annual BritGram Afternoon Tea, a charming celebration of British traditions, culture, and programming. This much-loved event highlights PBS’s British programming while bringing guests together to enjoy the timeless elegance of a traditional British afternoon tea.

With the help of our wonderful DBE members, this year’s event expanded to two sittings, welcoming even more guests to enjoy a full afternoon tea menu featuring an assortment of delicious treats and, of course, plenty of tea!

The afternoon offered more than delicious refreshments. Alisha Cole of our Somerset House Chapter entertained and educated guests with a fascinating presentation on the secret language of Victorian fans and parasols, exploring how these elegant accessories were used to communicate romantic interest and attract a partner. Meanwhile, Lissa Young of our Lady Nancy Astor Chapter hosted a delightful hat contest, with prizes generously donated by PBS.

Both DBE members and guests had a fantastic time celebrating British heritage, exploring Victorian customs, and enjoying the warm fellowship that makes afternoon tea such a special tradition.

A heartfelt thank-you to our dedicated DBE in Kansas members who worked so hard to make this event possible. We are also grateful to KCPT for inviting us to participate, helping make the expanded event a success, and creating a fantastic video capturing the spirit of the day.

We were thrilled to be part of this wonderful celebration of British culture and look forward to sharing more traditions, history, and community events in the future. Cheers to a delightful afternoon tea and a successful partnership!
