Irish Center Cream Tea
The kettle was on, the tea was flowing, and everyone had a wonderful time at A Cup of History, a special afternoon celebrating the rich tea traditions of Ireland and England! Hosted in collaboration with the Kansas City Irish Center and DBE in Kansas.
A highlight of the afternoon was a wonderful presentation by Mary Hawks of the Bard of Avon Chapter, who shared the fascinating history of Irish and British tea. Guests learned more about the traditions, customs, and cultural connections that have made tea such a beloved part of life in both countries.
Of course, no tea gathering would be complete without delicious refreshments! Guests enjoyed three varieties of tea served alongside scones with lemon curd, clotted cream, jam, and butter, as well as buttery shortbread. A special thank-you goes to SereniTea Boutique in Lee's Summit for generously donating Hugo Tea's Current, one of the three teas served at the event.
A heartfelt thank-you to the members of DBE in Kansas who worked hard to make this event a success. We are also grateful to the Kansas City Irish Center for partnering with us to bring this celebration to life, to Mary Hawks for her engaging and informative presentation, and to SereniTea Boutique for its generous tea donation.
Events like A Cup of History remind us that tea is about so much more than what's in the cup. It's about friendship, tradition, storytelling, and bringing people together across cultures and generations. We were delighted to share these beloved Irish and British customs with the Kansas City community, and we're grateful to everyone who helped make the afternoon so memorable.
Cheers to good tea, wonderful company, and a lovely afternoon of history!
